چکیده

We present an overview of time-resolved optical tomography together with the hardware and software methods that we have developed for a clinical instrument that implements this modality. The hardware is based on a multichannel photon-counting technique that records the histograms of photons time-of-flight through highly scattering and attenuating media. The software is based on a finite element model that is iteratively updated in order to minimize the difference between measured and modeled data. We have presented a first experimental reconstruction of a three-dimensional (3D) distribution of variable absorption and scattering coefficient, together with an ideal simulation of the same case. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Feasibility of three-dimensional optical coherence tomography and optical Doppler tomography of malignancy in hamster cheek pouches.

OBJECTIVE Hamster cheek pouches (HCP) with various degrees of 9,10-dimethyl-1,2-benzanthracene (DMBA)-induced dysplasia and malignancies were imaged with OCT/ODT in vivo and in vitro to assess the potential for three-dimensional high-resolution optical localization of airway malignancy. BACKGROUND DATA Optical coherence tomography (OCT)/optical doppler tomography (ODT) provide potential capab...

Three-dimensional time-resolved optical tomography of a conical breast phantom.

A 32-channel time-resolved imaging device for medical optical tomography has been employed to evaluate a scheme for imaging the human female breast. The fully automated instrument and the reconstruction procedure have been tested on a conical phantom with tissue-equivalent optical properties. The imaging protocol has been designed to obviate compression of the breast and the need for coupling f...

Development of an Advanced Optical Coherence Tomography System for Radiation Dosimetry

Introduction: According to the literature, optical coherence tomography (OCT) can be used measure radiation absorbed dose. This study was carried out to design a computed tomography system for the calculation of absorbed dose and optimization of dose delivery in radiotherapy using gel dosimeters. Material and Methods: An advanced charge-coupled device based OCT system was developed in laborator...

Multiple-slice imaging of a tissue-equivalent phantom by use of time-resolved optical tomography.

Following several years of development the construction of a multichannel time-resolved imaging device for medical optical tomography has been completed. Images are reconstructed from time-resolved measurements by use of a scheme that employs a finite-element diffusion-based forward model and an iterative reconstruction solver. Prior to testing on clinical subjects the fully automated instrumen...

Time-resolved Fourier optical diffuse tomography.

Time-resolved Fourier optical diffuse tomography is a novel approach for imaging of objects in a highly scattering turbid medium with use of an incident (near) plane wave. The theory of the propagation of spatial Fourier components of the scattered wave field is presented, along with a fast algorithm for three-dimensional reconstruction in a parallel planar geometry. Examples of successful reco...
